When something keeps tripping, stops working or behaves unexpectedly, the important part is finding the underlying cause rather than simply resetting the circuit or replacing the first component that looks suspicious.

What I can help with

  • Recurring tripping and loss of power.
  • Intermittent electrical faults.
  • Dead sockets or lighting circuits.
  • Faults affecting appliances or individual circuits.
  • Investigation of unexplained electrical issues.
  • Repairs and remedial work where the cause can be identified.

I approach fault finding methodically, using the symptoms, the existing installation and test results to narrow down the cause. Where possible I aim to implement fixes on the same day.

The symptom is not always the fault.
Finding the actual cause is usually more useful than repeatedly resetting the protection or replacing parts without understanding why the problem occurred.

Common questions

Can you attend if I don’t know what the fault is?

Yes. Fault finding is specifically about investigating an issue where the cause is not yet known.

Can you fix the problem on the same visit?

Where the cause can be identified and the required repair is practical with the available parts and access, I will aim to do so.

What if the fault is intermittent?

Intermittent faults can take more investigation. I will use the information available, inspect the installation and explain if further evidence or testing is needed.

Can you investigate a circuit that keeps tripping?

Yes. Repeated tripping can have a range of causes, so the circuit and connected equipment need to be assessed rather than simply resetting it repeatedly.
